Repair & maintenance

Solar panel repair and maintenance across California

System gone dark and the installer won't call back? We diagnose and fix residential solar across California — including systems we didn't install.

Your solar system stopped producing — or the app's been dark for weeks — and the company that installed it has gone quiet, merged, or vanished. That's the most common call we get in Southern California, where a decade of aggressive door-to-door installers left thousands of homeowners holding orphaned systems. Helios repairs and maintains residential solar across LA, Ventura, Orange, San Diego, and the Inland Empire — and now statewide, from the Central Valley to the Bay Area — including systems we didn't install. Between SCE's rate hikes and the NEM credits you've already paid for, every week of underproduction is money off your roof. We diagnose what's actually wrong and quote the fix in plain numbers before we touch anything.

Solar repair for existing systems — even if your installer is gone.

A wave of solar companies has disappeared from California in the last few years — SunPower's bankruptcy alone orphaned a huge base of residential systems, and dozens of regional installers closed behind it. The system on your roof is usually fine; what died is the company behind it. We adopt existing systems regardless of who built them: full diagnostic on any brand, monitoring brought back online where the hardware allows, manufacturer warranty claims routed to the equipment makers that still honor them, and every repair documented so the next owner of your home inherits a paper trail instead of a mystery.

Many owners pair the repair with storage while we're already on site — here's how adding a Tesla Powerwall to an existing system works, including orphaned arrays.

How a service call works.

  1. 1

    Phone triage (free)

We ask what the system is doing — or not doing — and check whether it's a reset you can do yourself. Half of "dead" systems are a tripped breaker or a comms dropout we can talk you through at no charge.

  2. 2

    On-site diagnostic

A technician inspects the array, inverter, conduit, rapid-shutdown, and monitoring, and tests production to find the real fault. The diagnostic is a flat fee, quoted upfront and credited toward the repair if you proceed.

  3. 3

    Transparent quote

You get the full fix priced clearly — covering part, labor, and permit if required — before any work. If it's cheaper to replace than repair, we say so. If it's under warranty, we help you file rather than charging you.

  4. 4

    The repair

Most single-fault repairs are done in one visit. Roof-related work and panel removal/reinstall jobs are scheduled around your roofer.

  5. 5

    Verification

We confirm the system is back to expected production and the monitoring is reporting before we leave.

Repair & maintenance by city

Solar repair questions, answered.

How much does solar panel repair cost in Southern California?
It depends on the fault. A comms or monitoring fix can be minor; an inverter replacement is the most common larger repair and varies by brand and size. We charge a flat diagnostic fee to find the real problem, then quote the repair clearly and completely before any work — credited back if you proceed. We never quote a repair price sight-unseen.
Do you repair solar panels you didn't install?
Yes. Most of our service calls are for systems installed by other companies, including installers who have since closed. We diagnose the array, inverter, and wiring regardless of who built it, and document everything so your manufacturer warranties stay valid.
How do I know if my solar panels need repair?
Common signs: your electric bill jumped without a usage change, your monitoring app shows zero or partial production, an inverter light is red or off, or the system stopped after an outage or storm. If your app has been dark for more than a few days, the system likely isn't producing.
Can you remove and reinstall my panels for a roof replacement?
Yes — one of our most-requested services. We safely detach and store your array, coordinate with your roofer's timeline, then reinstall and recommission the system once the new roof is on. We re-flash every penetration and verify production afterward.
Can you repair a SunPower system now that SunPower is gone?
Yes. SunPower's 2024 bankruptcy left a large base of California systems without the company that installed and monitored them. The panels themselves rarely fail — the usual faults are the monitoring going dark, an inverter or microinverter dying, or warranty paperwork with no one to send it to. We diagnose SunPower arrays like any other system, restore monitoring where the hardware allows it, and help you route equipment warranty claims to the manufacturers that still honor them.
Do you offer solar panel repair in Los Angeles?
Every day — Los Angeles is the core of our service territory. Our crews run repair and maintenance calls across the LA basin and the Valley, from Santa Monica and the Westside through downtown, South Bay, and the San Gabriel Valley. Same free phone triage, flat diagnostic, and transparent repair quote everywhere in LA County.
Which solar platforms do you service?
We work on the common residential platforms on California roofs, including Tesla, Enphase, SolarEdge, SMA (Sunny Boy), and standard string-inverter systems. Enphase microinverter and SolarEdge optimizer faults are often isolated to a single unit, which keeps repairs targeted and affordable. If your brand isn't listed, call — if we can't service it, we'll tell you who can.
