Solar panel repair service in Los Angeles County is our home turf: Helios is based in Santa Monica and runs repair, maintenance, and panel removal-and-reinstall calls from the Westside and the South Bay through downtown, the San Fernando Valley, and the San Gabriel Valley. Most of the systems we service were installed by other companies — a large share by installers that have since closed.
LA County splits between LADWP (the City of Los Angeles), Southern California Edison (most of the rest of the county), and the municipal utilities in Pasadena, Burbank, and Glendale — and the utility matters for repair, because a re-interconnection or meter issue goes through a different office in each.
SCE residential rates now average roughly 34¢/kWh with summer peak periods well above that, and LADWP's effective rate has climbed to the high-20s after its January 2026 increase. A 7 kW system that has gone dark in LA County is quietly costing its owner on the order of $150–$250 a month in lost production credit — more in July and August.
What we see most in LA County
LADWP systems: monitoring dark, meter fine
LADWP kept retail-rate net metering, so an idle system in the City of LA loses more per kWh than almost anywhere in SCE territory. The most common LADWP call is a system that is still interconnected and metering correctly but whose monitoring gateway lost Wi-Fi or cellular months ago — the owner only notices when the bill jumps. We restore monitoring first, then verify production against the meter.
SCE: NEM 2.0 grandfathering and repairs
Repairing or replacing an inverter on an SCE NEM 2.0 system does not reset your grandfathering, but a change in system size can. We size like-for-like replacements to keep your NEM 2.0 status intact and document the swap so SCE has no reason to re-evaluate the interconnection.
Permits: LADBS, SolarAPP+, and the 88 cities
Inverter swaps and re-roofs with panel reinstall usually need a permit. Inside the City of LA that is LADBS, which accepts SolarAPP+ for many residential changes; each of the other 87 incorporated cities has its own building department. We pull the permit where one is required and tell you up front when it is not.
Wildfire zones and PSPS season
The foothill and canyon communities — Malibu, Topanga, the Santa Monica Mountains, La Cañada, Altadena, the Santa Clarita Valley — sit in SCE's High Fire Threat District. After the August 2026 heat wave SCE said shutoffs could be more frequent and last longer, so a battery that will not discharge is now an urgent repair, not a nuisance. We prioritize backup-system faults in HFTD zip codes during fire season.

Installer closed? These are the ones we hear about most.
Freedom Forever
Filed Chapter 11 in April 2026 and converted to Chapter 7 liquidation in August 2026 after its sale collapsed; Temecula-based, one of the largest installers in Southern California.
SunPower
Filed Chapter 7 in 2024. Its dealer network and monitoring support ended; the panel brand continues under new ownership, but the company that installed and monitored the systems is gone.
Sunnova
Filed Chapter 11 in June 2025 and wound down its dealer-installed residential business; lease and PPA contracts were sold on, but installer relationships ended.
Titan Solar Power
Closed abruptly in June 2024 with tens of thousands of systems and no successor service company.
Lumio
Filed Chapter 11 in September 2024; assets were sold and most installation operations closed.

LA County solar repair questions, answered
- Do you repair solar panels in Los Angeles even if another company installed them?
- Yes — most of our Los Angeles repair calls are for systems installed by someone else, including Freedom Forever, SunPower, Titan, Sunnova, and Lumio systems whose installer has closed. We diagnose any brand, restore monitoring, file manufacturer warranty claims on your behalf, and pull LADBS or city permits where a repair requires one.
- How quickly can you get to a solar repair in LA County?
- Phone triage the same business day, and an on-site diagnostic usually within the week anywhere from the Westside to the San Gabriel Valley. Half of "dead" systems turn out to be a tripped breaker or a monitoring dropout we can talk you through on the phone at no charge.
- Does repairing my inverter affect my LADWP or SCE net metering?
- A like-for-like inverter or microinverter replacement does not change your interconnection agreement with LADWP or SCE. Increasing system size can trigger a new application — and on SCE that can mean moving from NEM 2.0 to NEM 3.0 — so we size replacements to protect your existing agreement and document everything for the utility.
- What does a solar repair diagnostic cost in Los Angeles?
- A flat diagnostic fee, quoted before we schedule and credited toward the repair if you proceed. Phone triage is free. We never quote a repair sight-unseen, and if the honest answer is a warranty claim or a replacement, that is what we tell you.
- Can you finish an installation Freedom Forever abandoned?
- Yes. We inspect the work completed so far, correct anything that would fail inspection, finish the install, and take it through permit final and utility interconnection. If equipment was paid for and never delivered, we help you document it for the bankruptcy claim while we quote the equipment needed to finish.
