What is the CPUC High Fire Threat District (HFTD)?
The HFTD is the California Public Utilities Commission's official map of where wildfire risk from overhead utility power lines is elevated (Tier 2) or extreme (Tier 3), plus Zone 1 — Tier 1 High Hazard Zones from the CAL FIRE/USFS tree-mortality map. Utilities use it to prioritize grid hardening, vegetation management, and Public Safety Power Shutoffs. Where the areas overlap, Tier 3 supersedes Tier 2, which supersedes Zone 1.

What does being in Tier 2 or Tier 3 mean for power shutoffs?
Tier 2 and Tier 3 circuits are the ones utilities de-energize first when Public Safety Power Shutoff conditions hit — high winds, low humidity, dry fuel. Shutoffs can last from hours to multiple days depending on weather and inspection time. Does an HFTD address qualify for the SGIP battery rebate?
It helps significantly. SGIP's general-market budgets are waitlisted, but the program's resiliency tiers prioritize homes in high fire-threat areas — and medical baseline customers there most of all. An HFTD address doesn't guarantee funding; we verify your exact address and circumstances against the currently open tiers as part of any battery quote, rather than promising amounts up front.
How accurate is this checker?
It queries the same CPUC-published map services as the official state map, at the geocoded point for your address. Two honest caveats: geocoding is approximate (usually parcel-level, occasionally street-level), and boundaries change through CPUC proceedings. For anything consequential, verify on the official CPUC map and with your utility.

Treat boundary results as a starting point, not an answer. The official CPUC map lets you zoom to parcel level and see exactly where the line falls, and your utility's PSPS notification history for your address is the practical truth — circuits, not map pixels, are what get shut off.
