Tens of thousands of Southern California roofs were built on Enphase microinverters under NEM 2.0, before batteries were part of the conversation. Those homes now want backup for PSPS season, or want to shift their production into the 4–9 PM peak. The IQ Battery 10C was designed for exactly that job.
- No inverter swap. The 10C carries its own IQ8B microinverters, so it AC-couples on the load side of your existing system. Your panels, microinverters, and racking stay exactly as they are.
- One app, one gateway. Production, consumption, and battery state all show in the Enphase app through the IQ Gateway you already have. No second monitoring platform.
- Modular sizing. Start with one 10C. If a summer of outages says you need more, a second unit stacks onto the same controller for 20 kWh.
- Longest warranty in the class. 15 years or 6,000 cycles, on LFP chemistry that tolerates daily cycling. That matters when the whole point is cycling it every evening.

What an Enphase IQ Battery 10C costs installed.
One 10C with the IQ System Controller 3: $13,000–$15,500 installed through Helios. The public market range is about $12,000–$14,500 (NuWatt Energy, reviewed April 2026); the older two-unit 5P configuration is quoted at $15,000–$17,000 (SolarReviews). We sit about $1,000 above the market band by design: owner-reviewed engineering, our own crews, and a single gross price with the permit passed through at cost.

The IQ System Controller 3
Every backup-capable IQ Battery install needs the controller: it is the transfer switch, the grid sensor, and the brain that islands the home. It is inside our range. Choose the 3G variant if you want a generator input.
Stacking a second 10C
Two units give 20 kWh and about 14 kW continuous, enough to carry central air through the evening peak. The controller, permit, and crew are shared, so the second unit adds roughly the battery-only cost.
Main panel upgrade
Older 100 A panels sometimes need a service upgrade before whole-home backup is possible. $3,000–$5,000 when the load calculation requires it; a critical-loads subpanel is often the cheaper route.
Retrofit vs. new solar
On an existing Enphase array, the battery is a clean add: no inverter swap, no re-permitting the solar. On a new solar-plus-storage build the whole system shares one permit and one crew day, which is where the savings hide.
How to pay for it: cash, a solar loan, or our prepaid lease, which passes through roughly 30% up front because the financing partner claims the federal commercial credit. The residential credit is gone for 2026 purchases. Every option is explained on our financing page.
SGIP and time-of-use, without the sales gloss.
SGIP. The CPUC’s Self-Generation Incentive Program still funds batteries through its Equity and Equity Resiliency budgets (income-qualified households, and resiliency for High Fire Threat District or medical-baseline customers). The general-market residential budget is effectively waitlisted. We check your address and tier before quoting and do not book a rebate into your price unless you are eligible under the current CPUC rules.
Time-of-use. Under NEM 3.0, exported solar is worth a fraction of what you pay the utility. The Enphase app’s savings mode shifts midday production into the 4–9 PM peak, when SCE averages 48–58¢ per kWh in summer and SDG&E averages around 46¢ all day. On an existing NEM 2.0 system the retrofit is mostly about backup, and we structure the interconnection to protect your tariff wherever the rules allow. LADWP customers pay closer to 28¢ with better export credits, so there a battery is a resilience purchase first.

- Can I add an Enphase battery to solar with a different inverter brand?
- Yes. Because the 10C is AC-coupled, it can back up a home with a SolarEdge or string-inverter system as well. The design is slightly different: the existing inverter sits behind the IQ System Controller and is managed for frequency-shift during an outage. For third-party systems we compare the 10C against the FranklinWH aPower 2, which is also inverter-agnostic and holds more energy per unit.
- Is one IQ Battery 10C enough to back up my house?
- For essentials, usually. 7.08 kW continuous carries the fridge, lights, internet, and a well or sump pump with room for normal kitchen use, and 10 kWh typically runs those loads through a night, recharging from solar each day. Central air conditioning, EV charging, or an electric range push most homes to two units. We model your loads and show the runtime before you sign.
- What is the difference between the IQ Battery 5P and the 10C?
- The 5P is a 5 kWh unit with 3.84 kW continuous output; the 10C doubles capacity to 10 kWh and raises continuous power to 7.08 kW in a single enclosure with four embedded IQ8B microinverters. The 10C is the better value for most homes; the 5P still makes sense for very small loads or where wall space is tight. Both carry a 15-year warranty and both are still available.
- Does the federal tax credit apply to an Enphase battery in 2026?
- Not for a homeowner buying the battery outright. The 30% residential credit (Section 25D) expired December 31, 2025.
