When you search for solar installation near you, Google shows a mix of national lead-gen sites, ads, and whoever optimized hardest — not necessarily who does the best work on your street. Every city below links to a page with the things that actually change your quote: your utility and its net-metering rules, your city's permit process, typical sun hours, and fire-zone considerations. Five checks that separate the best solar companies near you from the rest
- Active C-10 or C-46 license on cslb.ca.gov in the company's own name — not a dealer selling under someone else's number. Ours is C-10 #982201.
- Reviews on more than one platform with recent dates: Google, Yelp, SolarReviews, EnergySage, BBB. One perfect score on one site is a flag, not a credential.
- They name your utility's rules unprompted. An SCE home is on NEM 3.0 and needs a battery to pencil; an LADWP home is on retail net metering and often doesn't. A company that quotes both the same way hasn't looked.
- One all-in price, with the financing terms written down — dealer fees, escalators, and who owns the system in a lease. No “today only” discounts.
- They are still going to exist. Freedom Forever, SunPower, Sunnova, Titan and Lumio all closed since 2024. Ask how long the company has been installing, who services the system in year eight, and whether the owner reviews designs.

Check the license, not the pitch
Any legitimate California solar installer holds an active CSLB C-46 or C-10 license. Look the company up on the CSLB site before you book a single appointment — it takes two minutes.
Demand transparent pricing
A trustworthy quote is complete and holds still — no "today-only" pricing, no markups buried in the monthly payment, and any battery or panel upgrade called out before you sign.
Ask who actually does the work
Many "local" results are lead-generation sites that sell your info to whoever pays most. Ask directly: who pulls the permit, whose crew is on my roof, and who answers the phone in year 5?
